False positives from FISH Test?

That's exactly what my Uro told me. However, the last few TURBT's biopsies did not show CIS, rather dysplasia. This has been the trend the past couple of years. He sees red "puffy" areas which are quite similar to CIS. I just get weary of all these TURBT's.
Thanks for replying.

Hi Dave,
The FISH is pretty good on higher grade..less so on low grade. CIS can hide as we know. I'd definately do a follow up

Dave, I had a FISH test that was negative and the same time the cytology was negative, but the specimen showed focal CIS by one pathologist. The other 5 pathologist (3 with one sample) and two the second time stated both benign and displaysia. The pathologist at Hopkins called it focal cis. That was 18 months ago.

False positives from FISH Test? was created by ddoyle
After 6 TURB's, BCG & MMC (had bad inflammation from both) a couple of years ago, I've been clear on the last 3 cystos but have had 3 positive FISH tests in a row (9 months apart). All cytology tests have been negative and the cystos showed no apparent papillary or CIS.

My question: does anyone know of cases where FISH tests produced false positive results?

Or perhaps the problem could be "upstream" in the ureters or even kidney?

My uro doc is worried and will be suggesting some sort of TURB procedure to investigate. Not anxious for this but baffled by the 3 positive FISH tests.

Lastly, it's been more than a year since I posted. Looks like a whole new group except for Cynthia, Warren and a couple of others. Has anyone heard from Rosemary from North Carolina?

Best Regards,
