Managing All Health Issues Even When Your Cancer Diagnosis is Terminal

I wanted to start a topic about other health issues that effect treatment and longevity when your diagnosis is terminal cancer.

A Terminal or Metastatic Bladder Cancer diagnosis is obviously the most devastating of all Bladder Cancer Issues. If there are any other health issues that you or your loved one has to contend with it can be a challenge to monitor all simultaneously. I cannot stress enough however, how import it is to do this.

Death in the Metastatic Category is sometimes not due to the cancer, it can have more to do with other organs being overloaded, and ultimately failing...or infection or pneumonia that becomes life threatening.

If you are diabetic...you should know that Steroids used during Chemo, and some pain medications can cause your blood sugar levels to rise and fall dramatically. Monitor your levels closely...test often

If you have high blood pressure, or low blood pressure, there are medications that can raise and lower your blood pressure dramatically...check all medications you are on to see if they should be adjusted.

Guard as best you can against infection. Avoid unnecessary surgery, use an antibiotic ointment on any open wounds no matter how insignificant they may be...even a small razor cut. Use Lysol on all shared surfaces daily. If someone in the household is sick use a mask on the patient or ask those that come in contact to do so. Wash hands often, ask visitors to do the same...

With this diagnosis...it is so important to stay on top of all of these issues. I think (and this is only my opinion) that you can substantially increase the time you have together.

Although I am not a Dr. & most of you are not either, being an advocate, and being an active participant in your health and treatment is paramount.
