I WAS CURIOUS ABOUT FOLKS THAT DID WELL "DOWN THE ROAD" WITHOUT
BCG MAINTENANCE TREATMENTS.
I never had BCG. Had Mitomycin C, weekly treatment 8 times. No maintenance of any sort. No recurrences 6¾ years. It happens.
TaG3 + CIS 12/2000. TURB + Mitomycin C (No BCG)
Urethral stricture, urethroplasty 10/2009
CIS 11/2010 treated with BCG. CIS 5/2012 treated with BCG/interferon
T1G3 1/2013. Radical Cystectomy 3/5/2013, No invasive cancer. CIS in right ureter.
Incontinent. AUS implant 2/2014. AUS explant...
Depending on the tumor type and the presence or non-presence of CIS, many uros do not give maintenance; the latest guidelines suggest maintenance gives better long term response in case of high risk tumors and CIS. You can request it if it is something you would like to have.
My Urologist and I came to a mutual conclusion to discontinue BCG's in May of this year. I haven't had any recurrances yet, and I'm coming up on the 2 year mark in January of 2008. The 2 year marker seems to be a BIG milestone for a lot of BC patients. We shall see what we shall see.
Anyway, I don't think there will be any more BCG's for me.

Had a second TaG1 removed in Oct 2006 followed by 6 instillations of mytomycin. Had a clean cysto in Jan... and another clean one in April..Tried to do 3 instillations of mitomycin in May, but could only tolerate two. Had a clean cysto in August.. no "maintenance" after that. Next cysto in Dec... here's hoping it is clean..
