My first three instillations (as of July 31) passed without so much as an issue really. Number 4 on 8/7 started what is now a week of moderate to severe discomfort. I've been up most of all nights with bladder spasms that are ~ 8/10 on pain scale and I'm driving the 350 miles back to Houston for round 5 tomorrow morning

My doc recommended pyridium OTC and acetaminophen on regular schedule to resolve and "get ahead" of a recurrence. It's been a booger but not more than I can stand for now.

Hoping next 2 are better (or at least no worse) and that Doc will prescribe something for the pain as needed. I'll suggest the pyridium and acetaminophen if your Doc approves

Getting through 5 is a big plus even IF you had to discontinue. There is no absolute answer on protocols. I would definitely look into a a 1/3, 1/4 strength. As many threads here attest it still works at these levels. Is it also possible that you have an UTI on top of your treatment?

Changing pain meds is not an option. A) The Urologist has no control over them and B) It took over a year to get the combo I am on now that works on my chronic pain and allows me to still work.
Not sure I want to have my 6th if this is how I know it is working ! JEEEZ ! Already called my Uro yesterday morning as soon as they opened. Have not gotten a call back yet. Calling back again since while the pain is down a bit a 6 spiking to 7 when I urinate is NOT fun. ( At least it dropped from 8 spiking to 9 ). My right side is feeling almost like I started passing a kidney stone. ( Yep got those buggers too!) So not sure what is up.

Actually, what you describe are some of the "normal" side effects of BCG. Probably a little stronger than most. However, they should have lessened after 24 hours. I'd certainly let your URO know. Perhaps a different pain med may help. The good news is some of the side effect usually indicate this is working. Two quick observations. If these become too intense the dosage can and is often reduced to 1/3, 1/4 even 1/10. And, this is also better than chemo! Keep drinking water.

I had my 5ht BCG treatment last Friday ( 8/4/17) after passing the BCG within a couple hours I had an intense pain in my bladder as well as a very intense urge to go. Urinating increased the pain immensely and there was not much urine even though I was drinking a lot of water. This has continued with no let up in pain or intensity through today (Monday 8/7) I did have chills twice and a slight fever (99.1). I have been taking the antibiotics he gave me and pain meds I have but even though the pain meds are very good they have not touched this pain. During the day I have been going less frequently than normal and never had a normal urination. ( strong flow decent length etc.)instead it has been weak flow and short duration. Saturday night between 9 and 12:30 am I wound up having to go 9 times.
This does not seem "Normal" to me and I do plan on calling my urologist as soon as they open today. ( Planned my BCG treatments so I would have 2 days to recover without missing work by getting them done on Friday mornings as soon as I finished work for the week.)
Any ideas for me ?
