Does this "pill" have a name? Yes, it seems logical to question the reason/need for it, since you call it an antibiotic. No pills here after BCG. I had treatment delayed due to an infection, needing an antibiotic, but only certain ones so as not to interfere with the BCG.
True, it's a lonely journey, confusing at times as we seek what we hope is the best outcome. Don't feel guilty about a second opinion to evaluate your condition or care. I changed DR. after the 2nd TURBT, and feel it was a wise decision. Thanks for keeping us posted.

I have not heard of getting an antibiotic after BCG!! I always am given one after my cytoscopy, but NOT BCG!!!

I would ask the urologist about this, not the nurse.

A second opinion is usually obtained to confirm a diagnosis or treatment plan. You do want to be sure that you are being treated at a place, and by a urologist, where a lot of bladder cancer patients are treated..

Hi SaraAnne

I spoke with the nurse and she stated she forgot to give me the antibotic after the BCG treatment. After the first treatment I questio ned why would you give me an antibotic when you just put in a live virus I'm surposed to be fighting with my immune system. On all the BCG website no one has heard of giving a pill after the BCG treatment. I was told that they give you this so there is no infection from the catherization. But they said don't worry I'm okay without it this time.

I'm starting to really feel anxious about my choice of Doctors. Do you think I should have gone for a second opinion after my firs TURBT? Several on this forum have stated that the pathology reports differ from Dr. to Dr. I'm just hoping the treatment is the correct one .

Thanks for listening I really have felt alone in this battle.

I do not know what a "sulfur based pill" might be. It may not have been an antibiotic, but might have been something to help the bladder spasms that often occur after BCG. It would help if you would ask what it was and why it was given.

The first 3 treatments the nurse gave me one Sulfur based pill. The first time I questioned it as I thought no antibiotics should be given. Then today not sure if she forgot to give it to me or I never should have received any previously.
Can someone advise if they get a pill after BCG treatments?

Thank you,

AnneH
