I'm surprised they haven't done the PET already...i had a similar situation in that i've had an old scar from who knows what for like 20 yrs...they watch it...this last CT they did beore my breast surgery it looked like it had grown. They ordered a PET and it lit up which would indicate something is going on. Cleveland Clinic is one of the tops in Thoracic surgery and i contacted Dr. David Mason there and sent him all my records and scans and he looked them over and thinks it may just be a false positive as the PET sometimes will do that. Anyway i see him in August to determine whats next. And by the way he did not charge me a penny to look at my charts and information and scans. Thats my kind of doctor.
I hope your insurance will cover a top notch thoracic surgeon for this.

Pat,
Thanks for the site and I will think about that. I was told that I should have fought before the appt. rather than trying after the fact since they know I already paid.

As for my lung, the nodule is in the lower left lobe. Was 5mm and has grown to 8mm. Right now they don't think it is mets, but because of where it is located he wants one more CT scan and perhaps a PET scan before doing surgery. It is a strange shape so he is not eliminating mets but does not think the two are related.

Playing the waiting game is hard on the mind. At least he said he probably won't just do a biopsy, but cut it out and then see what needs to be done after the pathology report.

Trying to do research now on this and it is so very different with each stage.

Thanks for your support,
Vi

Oh Vi...that is just terrible. What are they saying on the lung nodule...bladder mets?
The insurance companies are sooo trained to just say no..and sometimes its all computer generated and a real person never sees it. I was told this by my insurance company who had been paying for my catheters and suddenly started rejecting the claims. It took me forever to find a intelligent real person to talk to who managed to change the automatic rejection and i was reimbursed for the months that they didnt pay and i haven't had a problem since. I know i gave you the link before to the patients advocacy group. Did you take advantage of their expertise? I'd still fight.

I went through 2 levels of fighting the insurance and lost both so I just chalked it up to experience.

Thing is, now I have a nodule on my lung that they think might be cancer since it is growing and I know I can't go to the cancer university for a 2nd on that.

I'm just thankful that my insurance does pay so well for my urologist and pulmonologist.

Well Gee..what's wrong with this picture....Thats outrageous. You should be able to negotiate what the insurance company would have paid them if they had covered which would have been somewhere around $260.00 for the visit..and less for the pathology.
Really sucks Vi
I'd write my senator. I'd sure write a whole bunch of people.

Pat,
You are correct. My insurance did not cover my appointment with Dr. Wilson at the Cancer University. I had to write a personal check for $1,000.00 to see the Doctor and now $400.00 for the pathologist that reviewed my slides. As Mike (MMC) said, it was money spent to give me piece of mind that my doctor is doing what he should.
