This link was originally from Mike or Pat so I bookmarked it. It covers pretty well the different diversions. Don't intend to add confusion but, it will give you all the terminology. http://my.clevelandclinic.org/services/urinary_reconstruction_and_diversion/hic_urinary_reconstruction_and_diversion.aspx
DX 5/6/2008 TAG3 papillary tumor .5 CM in size. 2 TURBS followed by 6 instillations of BCG weekly with a second round of 6 after a 6 week wait.
Pat, I am not sure of the name, however I do know you have a stoma that empties into a bag on the outside. I met a lady that has one and after talking with her and doing some research on my own---I think this is the best way for me to go should I need a RC. I am 65 years old and of course will listen to any recommendations.
Brenda, they are both top institutions. A lot depends on what kind of diversion you want if you do have a cystectomy. Some surgeons have a definate opinion on what they want to put in. But they should explain all 3 to you and you should have a say.
I am trying to decide if I should go back to MD Anderson where I went for my second opinion or go to John Hopkins. In reading the messages I see where many good things are said regarding Dr. Mark Schoenberg. John Hokins is where my second surgery pathology was read confirming CIS in several locations in the bladder.
If it comes to me having my bladder removed I want to be prepared with the best resources available. Just looking ahead!!!
