BCG sessions and other fun things to do in your spare time

I also wondered about the antibiotic. Since BCG is a live bacterium, I was always under the impression that you NEVER used antibiotics while undergoing treatment. On the other hand, whenever I have cystoscopy I always get one before I leave the office. I wonder if someone in your uro's office is confused? Did the uro give you an antibiotic, or a nurse after the treatment?

Pat,

I haven't had any alcohol since I started the BCG (but I am considering running the wagon of the cliff this weekend). I quit smoking on the 10th of March (after getting home from my first TUR). My Uro explained that the antibiotic was to prevent UTI and was only a single pill taken before I left the office after the instillations. Only taking the oxybutynin daily and an occasional excedrin (but not on a regular basis.

hmmm. quite a combination there. Well if you drink any alcholol at all the Ditropan(oxybutynin)
Alcohol should generally be avoided during therapy with anticholinergic agents. Patients should be counseled to avoid activities requiring mental alertness until they know how these agents affect them.
And i'm wondering about the concurrent dose of an antibiotic as

Intravesical instillations of BCG should be postponed during treatment with antibiotics, since antimicrobial therapy may interfere with the effectiveness of TheraCys.........??
Why is he giving you an antibiotic?
Are you taking any other drugs ?

Thanks for the input. As a Criminal Defense Lawyer, being able to concentrate, recall and use phrases and words properly (let alone being able to "think on my feet") is of great concern to me. I was not trying to be funny or to minimize the seriousness of the disease. The title to this post was merely my sarcastic way of voicing my frustration and anger for having to deal with this cancer.

I don't believe that the problem is fatigue because I am still getting about six hours of sleep per night, and my appetite has not diminished. The problem has only surfaced since finishing the initial six BCG instillations. I have noticed in the courtroom that I have to measure what I am saying alittle bit more than prior to the BCG. I even find that I struggle a little in everyday conversation - something that never occurred before. Don't misunderstand, it is not debilitating, but it is just enough to be annoying.

Has anyone experienced a concentration/focus problem similar to this? I am trying to determine whether it is the BCG or something else.

I've been pretty much fuzzy all the time! Since I did not have BCG, I guess it is just a natural state of mind
