I am just back from having my Cysto. It was clean. Also the cytology was also showing no abnormailties ( (he had the results because I had the sample taken last week). I asked about the six month VS 3 month interval and he said that with what I had and with what he is seeing he is comfortable with six month intervals at this point (18 months after TUR).
The scope was uncomfortable as usual but not painful and only took 3 to 4 minutes.
So a Feb Happy Dance.

Congrats Alan!

I can tell you one thing. I bet I could perform a cysto on myself now without a problem. After the RC and removing the prostate and using 16 French red rubber catheters, it should be a piece of cake. I think those cystoscopes are only the equivalent of a 14 French. I'm not sure of actual size but the last cystoscopy I got (post surgery) was a piece of cake.

:)

NOT saying that I WANT TO, just saying I probably could! :D

I was diagnosed in summer of 2003. In Fall of 2009 after 1 year of no check up the cancer was back. (I had done 2 years worht of BCG). I think I may stick to 3 months forever. Just had a cysto last week. Don't know what to think. I had an ulcer in/on my bladder which I guess explains why it hasn't felt normal. Start 3 more rounds of BCG (1/3 strength) on Monday. If the ucler is still there after 3 months at next check up he will do a biopsy of the ulcer. He thinks the BCG will be good for the ulcer-I hope he is right.

Ya'll,

Happy to report my 21st month cysto is all clean. Off course cytology has to be finished but, looks I am good to go to 6 months. That uncomfortable (I won't call it painful-although most URO's never have this done to them selves in med school) scope is worth the good news. There is hope for all!

DX 5/6/2008 TAG3 papillary tumor .5 CM in size. 2 TURBS followed by 6 instillations of BCG weekly with a second round of 6 after a 6 week wait.

As Nix said, not unusual. Low grade is different.
BCG is MOST effective with CIS. Also, used in high grade.

Used by some for low grade. You just want to be sure the low grade doesn't turn into high grade.

As has been said by quite a few already, talk to your uro about keeping you on 3 month cystos for now.
