My CT was done prior to cystoscopy but that was due to gross hematura and finding a diagnosis. I also had a CT done prior to my RC.
P.S. check out this site for all type of financial assistance

Thank you both.

The Dr. that saw my father in law said he will likely need one overnight stay because of the size of the tumor.

Also, does anyone know if CAT scans are done before or after TURBT to determine if there's tumors anywhere else? All we've had so far is biopsy from the cystoscopy.

Thanks!

I may not be much help here but i do know that it is way cheaper to do this procedure as an outpatient. Mine was done this way at Memorial Sloan in NYC and i was on my way about 45 minutes after i woke up with no complications. The better the surgeon the less complications. Have you called someone like MSK and asked them prices? Since your father has no insurance i wonder if the Patient Advocacy Group could give you some advise?

My last TURB-T was in February of this year and the costs that were billed were approximately this:

anesthesia - $1000, Hospital Outpatient - $9800, Urologist $2000 and Pathologist $150.

I had shoulder surgery after that and the costs were about the same (different hospital - same city) except that the Orthopedist charges were about $6000.

Most hospitals will work with you in advance to come up with a payment plan if you don't have insurance.

I live in NC, so I don't know how costs will translate.

Best wishes to you and your father-in-law.

Hello,
My father in law (64) recently was diagnosed with high-grade transitional cell, and is possibly non-invasive. But tumor is very very large and at least one urologist declined to do surgery because of the size.

We have not been able to get ANY feedback from nurses or hospitals about estimate of cost for TURBT with maybe one night stay at hospital. People told us the anesthesia is most expensive part, but no one wants to give just a ROUGH estimate! We need to prepare since he has no insurance, does not qualify for Medicare or Medicaid, and unfortuantely, we are not well-off either.

Anyone can at least ballpark/guesstimate a range for us???? They did say that the surgeon part only would be about $3500.... i just don't know what else goes into pricing.
We live in NY/NJ area.

Thanks for any help.
