Did you smoke?

Didn't and don't smoke. I was a chemistry major in college and worked with aniline on a senior project (20 years ago). My first job after college was working in a metallurgy lab - aluminum, copper, lead, cadmium - also a risk factor. I also did not pay attention to how little I was drinking - probably always in a state of minor dehydration. Strike 3 for me.

I was a smoker for over 49 years.
Have now been off cigs for 3 1/2 years.
Doc said it very simply: If you want me to help you, you must help yourself first. That was the last day I had a cancer stick.
My reading has shown that over 75% of bladder cancer victims have been smokers.

I have been monitoring the CLL list for a friend, and similar questions...identical twins, one with, one without...have come up. Someone posted this web site about a PBS program and I found it fascinating and quite relevant to this

I never smoked and was never exposed to smoke other than at public places like restaurants. It must just be the luck (bad) of the draw.

I smoked half a cigarette when I was a teenager  My identical twin smoked for a few years. My father smoked heavily when we were kids. We knew he was coming home when we heard his cough. Dad had a bladder polyp, but never cancer. My twin is cancer free. Dad died at 86 with dementia. Mom, who was exposed to lots more of his smoke died at 83 of leukemia, probably caused by radiation for breast cancer a few years before.
