Hi, new to all this. got dx in July along with dx of an unrelated carcinoid tumor in the lung and a nest of kidney stones. anyway, i had second BCG last Thursday and got the flu shot that afternoon with approval from my urologist. He said 'better the flu shot that the flu' and wasn't aware of any contradictions. So far, no issues.

I wonder if it makes a difference if you get the flu shot during or shortly after the BCG treatment, as opposed to having already had the flu shot before starting treatment as you did Nix? I just finished my first 6 weeks of BCG in mid-September, so assume a flu shot some time in November might be OK, but SaraAnne has me wondering. Assuming my late October cysto is OK, my first 3 weeks of maintenance BCG will be in December.

Sorry to hear of your diarrhea, SaraAnne. Given how busy I know I'm going to be in December, I sure hope my 3 weeks of maintenance is as uneventful as the initial 6 weeks -- but I do remember you mentioning you had also sailed through the 6 weeks, so I'm not counting my chickens!

I asked my doctor the exact question last year at this time - I got the flu shot in October and had my first 6 BCG in November. I didn't have any problems with the shot or the BCG:)

Has anyone received guidance from their doc on immunizations during/after BCG treatment? Something seems to tell me that it might not be a good idea to get my flu shot right now.

Have one more maintenance BCG to get through on Friday. It had to be postponed from last week because I really got hit....lots of fatigue and diarrhea. BTW, I had asked if anyone had diarrhea as a side effect and no one seemed to know if this was expected. I dug into the info pak that I got with my first BCG last spring, and GUESS WHAT? Diarrhea is a listed side effect at the 7% level. Hoe could I be so lucky? Lasted for five days and left me really wiped out. Uro may decrease dose on Friday.
