about that rabbit....i may have caught one. After my husband died on the operating room table during what was supposed to be routine bypass...the surgeon actually said in my presence and my familys presence..."If i'd known he was in that bad a shape i would have never opened him up".........HUH...now who didn't talk to whom?...I consulted the top attorneys on this and they all said the same thing...something like catching the rabbit.......Well guess what was on the news tonight. That very hospital which is supposed to be the "Premier Heart Hospital" in the city has been caught giving kickbacks to cardiologists who refer patients to them for surgery...now there will be a class action suit which i fully intend to join them in. Isn't that just pathetic? pat

They should of kept you in the hospital while you were there and ran some tests. I was in the ER (fever 103.8)for what I thought was a UTI but they kept me and ran tests and found out I had MRSA in my blood. Then they found out I had an abyss on my left kidney and since I have the Indiana Pouch the Dr there was honest enough to say he didn't think he could treat me right. Also my wife was already in the process of calling the the Univ of Penn where I had my surgery. This was 1/8/07 and I was transferred on the 11th. These local hospitals just don't have the knowledge to treat this disease. The Dr who admitted he couldn't treat me right cause I had the RC and Indiana Pouch called me up at Penn to see how I was doing which I thought was rather nice. Joe ;)

Should have mentioned it was just 24 hours after the cysto that the fever started. Went to Emerg Room 2 days later and they diagnosed UTI and sent me home with CIPRO.. called me back when they found out it was psuedomonas aeruginosa, but they still blew it by sending me home with another oral ineffective antibiotic. Finally got in to the hospital 8 days after the cysto... whew... :P

What was the time lapse from the time you left the Uro's office until when the infection started. Taking something to court like this you may as well go out and try to catch a rabbit. Glad you're feeling better. Joe

Wow..that is nasty...and
Urinary tract infections. Urinary tract infections (UTI) caused by Pseudomonas aeruginosa are usually hospital-acquired and related to urinary tract catheterization, instrumentation or surgery. Pseudomonas aeruginosa is the third leading cause of hospital-acquired UTIs, accounting for about 12 percent of all infections of this type. The bacterium appears to be among the most adherent of common urinary pathogens to the bladder uroepithelium. As in the case of E. coli, urinary tract infection can occur via an ascending or descending route. In addition, Pseudomonas can invade the bloodstream from the urinary tract, and this is the source of nearly 40 percent of Pseudomonas bacteremias.

On Mar 12 I had a routine cystoscopy... my ninth in 3 years... have also had 2 TURBC for superficial TaG1 tumors... The cysto was clean... but I came down with a really nasty Urinary Tract Infection... a bacteria called PSEUDONOMAS AERUGINOSA... that put me in the hospital on IV antibiotics (MERREN and TOBRAMYCIN)for 6 nights with 10 more days of 3 daily IV's via a PICC LINE at home. Needless to say I am really upset with my urologist and have retrieved my records and have an appointment with a new guy in 2 weeks. Blows my mind that a bacteria as nasty as this one (Google it) can be in a urologist's office. All I hear from the medical community is that it is not unusual to get a UTI after a cysto.... That's BS!!!! Bacteria can be killed with proper care. I am thinking of going to a personal injury lawyer, but the laws are so protective of doctors and hospitals now that it is probably not worth the effort. All I can say is make sure your uro is using all the precautions available. This guy and his aide did not even "gown up"...
