Side effects from BCG treatment

I recently finished 6 weeks of BCG treatments. I had no side effects. In 2000 I had 6 weeks of BCG, again with no side effects. After those, I was cancer-free for 7 years. The thing is, nobody knows who will have no side effects, who will have severe side effects, who will have success with BCG and who won't. You just have to try it and see.

The side effects from BCG treatments seem to differ widely from patient to patient. My reaction to the first 6 treatments seemed level with maybe a slight increase towards the last. The next series of 3 were more severe, however the last 3 were not as bad. Makes no sense. As for the duration and length of side effects, I ususally had my installations in the AM and reutnred to work in the afternoon. Probably not the best scenario, but manageable. I have my fifth cysto planned this coming week, and then another round of 3 BCG treatments. I have not had any reocurrences as of my first anniversay this past Nov. (knock on wood) Good luck to all.

How long do the BCG side effects last? If done on a Friday could you go to work on Monday? Is there severe burning when urinating? I will be starting mine in about 6 weeks.

Is there any medication that they give you to curb the side effects?

From what I've read I don't believe the severity of side effects are an indication of effectiveness either. If you look at the protocols, it is even recommended to dilute the BCG if the side effects are bad - I think the idea is just to stimulate the immune response, not debilitate the patient.
