Jack, it is good you have had no recurrences since your original TURB in January 2006. It ssems you have responded well to your BCG treatments. By reading some of the posts on this site under superficial non invasive you will note many success stories and not all have recurred nor progressed. Bladder cancer of various types and grades do have some predictability in stats but your type and grade has a varying history but mostly very good prognosis. My grade was a 1-2 and although not statistically threatening to progress I have had many recurrences. It seems what occurs in the first two years from orginal diagnosis give the best indication of how our own individual type and grade will proceed or subside. I don't know if that is of help in your search for answers. Usually a recurrences is of the same type and grade from my experience. My best to you and all Rosie

Its really a crapshoot.. I was diagnosed T1G3 almost 2 years ago and have been clean since.. after a couple years the chance of progression and recurrence go way down (if you haven't had a recurrence by then). The best statistics I have found are from the EORTC, a calculator can be found here:

Jack,

My first doctor who made my dx told me that he was just going to go ahead and say
"it's going to come back." But, then he left me and it's been 2 years and no recurrance. When I told my second Dr. "I know it's going to come back." He replied to me, "Maybe not."...

So, I'm guessing that it depends on what your history is and who you are talking to as to whether you will hear that it is "going to come back."

I think I know how you feel.

Your bud,
Rosemary

Well Jack,
I don't know about upgrading from TaG3 which is what I had with CIS because I've never had a recurrence. It's almost 7 years. So how about that as a possibility?!? Upgrading isn't inevitable, especially if recurrence isn't inevitable.

Hi Jack,
Sorry to have to meet you here, but Welcome.
I was afraid too when I was diagnosed - I think all of us were. The information on bladder cancer can be intimidating. There are 2 main types of bladder cancer - one is invasive and the other is noninvasive - superficial. Both are treatable :)
Off hand I do not know the recurrance or progression rates as I had the invasive type. There are quite a few people here who have managed the noninvasive well - Rosemary and Rosie are 2 I know of for sure. And I know atleast one will post soon to you.
We are here anytime. Try to enjoy the Thanksgiving Holiday, Holly

To all of you. This is very new to me. I am very afraid and try to find information concerning this disease. My first Urologist told me nothing about staging and grading. I found the information from a great friend of BCAN Cyndi who helped me. It appears that reoccurrances and progression is inevitable. I hope and pray that there can be something done to help educate patients and people who are at risk. Thank you for your kindness and encouragement.

Jack
