I was diagnosed with T1Stage1 with CIS 2 yrs ago. I also had the BCG x6 with a follow up maintenance of 3 and 3.

Because I had a reoccurence after my first round - another doctor told me to follow up with an additional 6 treatments. That didn't sound right to me - glad I didn't follow his advice.

I did have increasing reactions to BCG so my dose was lowered as my treatments progressed.

I'm sure that a lot has to do with your individual tolerance but I would caution you to proceed carefully with this. Maybe another opinion.

Quite frankly - I don't believe its an exact science and there is a lot of guesswork involved.

I wish you luck as you try to make sense of all this. I'm still trying to understand and its 2 years later. O'Donnell has another protocol that is just a different time schedule.

When my husband was diagnosed with CIS his Doctor treated it with 8 rounds of BCG. We didn't ask why 8 and at that time had no knowledge of the Lamm protocol to question the number of treatments.

Okay, now I'm following....hmmmm...I can't say that I've heard of 8 treatments for the initial induction and the fact that no one else has responded makes me think that this is an unusual protocol.

Has the Dr. stated his reasoning on this?

I googled around a little about this and can't find anything about studies on this particular protocol.

From all that I am familiar with most of the studies (Lamms') indicate 6 initial treatments to be followed by maintenance BCG treatments.

I'll keep looking....

Thanks for responding. I looked at the web site you listed. I was not clear enough, my question was 8 versus 6 treatments in the original induction BCG treatment phase not counting any maintenance. Thanks

Hello Mr. James,

I am Rosemary and I am 55 years old, female with a "History" of T1 G3 disease.

I am also on my lunch hour from work so will have to say "Hey" and keep this somewhat brief.

I think to begin with that you should visit the homepage of the BLCWebCafe and take a look at the Protocol for BCG Maintenance. It's rather lengthy, but I am pretty sure that you will find your answer there.

I have had a total of 12 BCG treatments, I did try the Maintenance BCG therapy, but side effects became a problem for me. However, just let me state that many, many people tolerate maintenance BCG very well without the types of problems that occurred for me.

Good luck. Glad to have you here, and here is the place to go....

Well, I couldn't get this to paste, so I'll try to do it longhand...

I am a 55 year old male with TaG3 (hih greade but no invasion) bladder cancer and I have had the surgery and have had 4 BCG treatments and my urologist wnats me to have 8 BCG treatments but i have read that 6 is the standard and that 8 might even have a negative effect on the immune response plus increased risk for side effects. I would appreciate and advice, commnets or recommendations.
