Yes Maria I got Gemzar & Cisplatin. Come day15 on the chemo the Gemzar which is weakest of the 2 meds turned out I was allergic to. I had rashes on my arms and shins and the only thing they could finally end up attribiting to was the Gemzar. I never had any allergies to any meds guess I do now. They switched me to this chemo MVAC. Good Luck, Joe ;)

Hi Maria,

I believe the gemcitabine is also called gemzar. The 4 months of chemo I did were cisplatin and gemzar after my RC for stage 3 bladder cancer. The cisplatin was nasty - many side effects; however, the gemzar seemed much easier to tolerate. I think there are pages on the cafe about the chemos, side effects and helps for coping with chemo.
Wishing you guys the best, God Bless, Holly

My husband is going to start treatment on Monday for stage 4 mestatic bladder cancer. He has a compromised kidney, thus is being given this lower dose chemotherapy with Paclitaxel. Has anyone else received this combination? Any suggestions on how to best tolerate it?

Thanks!!
