Thank you, everybody! He's coming back....slowly but surely. We've had some interesting times, you can bet.

He's nearly crashed in the shower....that he got into by himself. I found him there when I came in. An EKG and a lung xray and a portable O2 and four aides later, he was back in bed.

He laid in his own "stuff". I came back and found him that way, and the aides said they'd already cleaned him up three times that morning.

I'm almost afraid to come back in when I've left!

Anyway, his color is better, his temp is better, his oxygen levels and pulse are better. His urine output is normal, and he can walk to the comode or shower by himself.

Whew......it's been a wild week.

He's still not eating much. The nutritionist visited him yesterday, and says he promised to eat three high calorie shakes a day, but he says they taste nasty.

Today, he actually ate four small bites of vegetarian lasagna, which wasn't all that bad, and drank some soda. Today was game day at the university, so the traffic was dicey, and I had to plan ahead for driving. The traffic finally cleared at 4:00, so I could come home.

I came home to do laundry and take care of the dogs. I'm hoping he'll be ready to go home tomorrow or Monday.

Anyway, I, too, wish we could clone ourselves. But at least I have you guys.

Thanks!

Hi Stephany - I am so sorry to hear of the infection and hospitalization. Glad you got Doran to the hospital and admitted...even though someone there dropped the ball regarding urine collection...kinda scary, glad the Foley is in place now - less for you to worry about when you can't be there. Hopefully they will get a handle on the infection and the right meds to combat it. I hope you had a restful evening with your feet up. :) Keep us posted when you have time. Be sure to tell Doran to mind the doctor's and nurses so that he can get out of that hospital and have a proper birthday celebration! Prayers and hugs coming your way. Margot and Harry

Stephany,

After chatting the other night, you knew something was wrong...Good call!

I am sorry he is in the hospital...but he is where he needs to be to get this infection under control.

When you call the nurse to check on him, ask questions (which are really reminders for the staff) like: "Did he get his morning meds yet"? How is his blood pressure? "What is his output", etc...If certain things haven't been done, it will bring his chart to the top of the nurses "things to do list"...

I will be thinking of you today, and waiting for your update,
Karen

Oh, the dangers of hospitalizations and still they are necessary. UTI's can be very nasty. When Dick started running fevers he would get delirious if it was a bladder infection. Isn't it too bad we can't be in two places at the same time. Then we could take care of necessary things at home and still make sure that our spouses are well looked after when they are inpatient.
I hope Doran recovers soon. Julie
