My dad had this procedure done to help with a pocket of arthritis at the end of his tail bone, it was VERY helpful and restored his quality of life in that area.

Elsie, I am relieved to hear that the nerve block helped with your pain. I guess you have to keep on taking the pain medication as the nerve block isn't permanent. I am sorry the radiation didn't help. Do they have an explanation as to why the radiation didn't help? Julie

The Nerve block procedure does help quite a bit. I was told to continue the high dosage of pain medication and not to stop. The idea is the the pain cycle will be broken. I can also sit for a while which I was not able to do
even with medication before .

I hope it lasts. I found out today that the radiation did not work. But I am hoping that I can still function for a while.

My husband will be getting an injection of quadramet next week...I will post about the results...He also has cancer in his sacrum...the radiation helped some, but not enough...he did not have any negative response to the radiation, and it did help significantly in other areas...I have not investigated the nerve block option, but I will ask this week what his Drs think about it...Quadramet is similar to the injection you get for a Bone Scan...It is a absorbed by the bone and gives pain relief for a significant period of time...It also does kill the cancer in the area it is absorbed...It is not permanent...but it is supposed to give superior pain control/ and quality of life with reduced narcotics needed...I was told that alot of Drs try to steer their patients away from this because of the cost ($1600 to $2000 per dose)...I would talk to the Nuclear Medicine Dr. at the Hospital you go to. You do not need a referral to get information...

We were told by my husband's pain specialist that the nerve block could help with malignancy caused pain. Dick is having the radiation treatment first. We just hope they start soon as the pain seems to increase sharply every week.
Did the radiation help your tail bone pain at all?

My Bladder Cancer has now been found in my tail bone which makes sitting almost impossible. I had radiation and was told they could do a nerve block to ease the pain. Any advice on whether this would work or if I should avoid this procedure?
