Dana, It's good to hear your husband is doing okay. I too took a break this summer. But now facing some testing next week. Hoping i learn nothing about stent. I have always said being the caregiver is the hardest part. Hang in there.
I agree with George on the mucas part, except I don't think George was drinking enough beer!!!
Wishing both of you the best.

Dana, glad to see you here again. You are allowed to take a break for sure. We missed you.

Mucas........ oh Man, can I relate to this. Believe me, I know mucas. Drinking lots of water is my deal. But sometimes even that does not work all that well. My Dr. says this is normal and drinking fluids will help. Although beer doesn't seem to help all that much.

Thanks for your update.... We missed you.

A stent, that's what it's called, I still haven't learnt everything yet.
My husband doesn't have a pouch or anything to drain. The doctor started off with a small stent and each time he has it changed puts in a bigger, till hopefully he won't need it at all. He is having it changed again in 5 months, then I don't know.

Hi Dana
I too have a stent. I have an Ileal Conduit. I had renal failure 2 years ago due to scar tissue on the ureter. They put a stent from my kidney to my stoma. It drains into the pouch. I have it changed every 5 weeks. It did plug one time due to mucus but they just changed it and I have been fine since. Good luck with you husband.

Renal failure on 7-01-09 nephy tube and then stent on 7-09-09
so far so good

Mucous is very, very common. It's something anyone with an intestine for a bladder would have some of. More in the beginning and some figure out foods and drink that increase/decrease it. More water seems to be a common theme but others will likely jump in the share their experiences.

Sounds like his doctor has things under control and hopefully this repair will fix it for good. I never had that problem so no experience to share on that front.

Thanks Mike and Diane, I feel so much calmer now and all this has really changed me, I think I have a different outlook on life now, I don't worry so much about the littl things.
I know that we aren't out of the woods yet, this is a lifetime thing and we take it a step at a time. In six months I will have the same worrying and stress until the results come out again, but I have to be confident and optimistic otherwise I will just go crazy.
I am surprised nobody has my husband's problem, I asked my husband agan and the mucus has nothing to do with the surgery. He said the intestine that was used for the neobladder got twisted and could have resulted in complications if it wasn't fixed, so I think the surgeon tried to clear a path and open it with the tube he placed. This will eventually come out.
As for the mucus, isn't this common, I have read a lot about it on the site.
