Wayne's Surgery Went Well

All I can say is, Doran kept saying "Keep everybody out! I don't want any visitors." And he had one of those famous "semi-private" rooms, and hated it when his roommate had family, too. They were loud, and he felt even worse.

Nobody wants to have to reassure visitors that they are doing well, so maybe visitors for you while the surgery is going on, but none while he is in the hospital recovering.

And none at home until he says he's ready. You might even tell people not to send flowers, because you never know what you might be doing (or emptying) when the florist rings the bell!

I PM Ginger alot and she is a true example of a caregiver never boasts about the things she has and Gene is very nice man. I am 53 and I learned long time ago when you are not out there partying and I don't anymore or you are sick see how many of these so called friends are around. Damn I had more acquaintances in life then I ever did honest to true friends. Joe ;)

thanks ginger, for your take on visitors. i guess i'll tell my friend to come the day of surgery. but the rest of the time i'm just having my son and on the weekend (days 6 and 7) some longtime friends want to come but will understand if i cancel them. how is gene doing, and how are YOU doing? no one asks about the wives!

Eileen, I think it would be great to have someone there with you the day of surgery, it sure helps pass the time, it can be very long as every hour seems like 2. I had 4 people with me, they probably thought I would freek out or something, my son, daughter, sister and brother-in-law...but I was so grateful for them being there, it kept my mind off it, lots to talk about. They have TV'S everywhere, Gene surgery was 6 hours, but we started at 5:00 AM,,LONG LONG DAY, DIDN'T SEE HIM UNTIL 6 IN THE EVENING in recovery. Thats my take on it.... Ginger

hi ginger - thanks for the input. i cancelled all friends. i haven't decided yet if i want/need someone to sit with me on the day of surgery (a week from monday). do you think i need anybody there? i'm pretty self-sufficient - if i have a book and a cell phone i think i'll be fine.

our son is coming weds. nite thru friday. i think that will be enough. how is gene doing?

Eileen,
Joe is right, it isn't exactly the time for friends. I had family, daughter, son, sister and brother-in-law,on surgery day,, day 4 grandchildren, but it just so happened day 3 some friends stopped in, it couldn't have been at a worse time, Gene was nauseated, he had the hiccups, I felt bad for him, I think he was embarrassed,
and most of all was sick.
What might make more sense is too have them over when you get home, about 2 weeks later. Ginger Beane
