Mike,

Dr. Wilson explained that the upside of chemo is 5-10% that the cancer will not recur. She said this has been a recent change in what they recommend for all patients with invasive cancer. In fact, she said that one study in Europe that led to the regular recommendation of chemo was just completed this summer (I think). So we decided that 5-10% is worth doing.

Janet,

Thanks for posting. I've been trying to keep an eye out to see how things went.

The chemo prior to the surgery is common. It depends on how deep they think it is. Early T2 is different from T2 that has gone a bit deeper so hitting it with chemo shows better results.

I never did get chemo before or after mine.

My doctor wasn't Dr. Wilson but he's another one of the top doctors there and she does many more RCs. I can assure you they work very closely as a team there. I've been going for about four years now and discussions with my doc also include him telling me what his colleagues think.

Nat is in great hands there!

Thought I would post an update. Saw Dr. Wilson yesterday and she is quite intelligent and positive. She recommended a course of chemo before surgery. We were mentally prepared for surgery soon so this is an adjustment, but as Nat thought about it, he said he will do it. We will see the oncologist on Tuesday. I am impressed that the surgeons and oncologists are in the same suite of offices so they are really working together. I think this provides for continuity of care and better options for the patient.

I'm sure I'll have chemo questions coming up but I know you all will be here.

Blessings to you all,

Janet
