Pat, thanks so much for the information and the comments of everyone. They have been most helpful. My husband will be having another biopsy next week since this new development seems to be new BC on the other side of his bladder. We have an appointment with Dr. Joseph Smith at Vanderbilt in early November. I feel like a load has been lifted just because we now have a plan in place. Thanks again to everyone. :)

Just something i've been wanting to say. I think it is extremely helpful that US News and World Report ranks Hospitals and ranks them in specialties. And its a really good start for you to begin your search for top specialists. HOWEVER...the #1 Urology Center in the country has really only 2 bladder cancers uro/surgeons..one who is especially great but has a tremendous backlog. The #2 center has lost all but one of its top uro's as top uro went to USC/Norris and took top other uro's with him so they are re-building.
If you're looking at top Cancer centers also well which cancer are they tops at?
Bladder cancer is so individualized and there is no ranking for it...should be but there isn't so you painfully have to read all the bio's and find the doctors area of interest and expertise. If it says Prostate, voiding problems, kidney transplant....move on.
Top Uro/surgeons for me are at MSK in NYC, USC/Norris in L.A., U. of Michigan, Vanderbilt, Indiana University Simon Cancer Center for pure numbers of specialists in that area. Of course there are other individual specialists who are out there who are at University centers mainly. MD Anderson is terrific but has 3 doctors who specialize in bladder cancer. Dr. Schoenberg at Hopkins is incredible if you can get in to see him in a timely fashion.
Just saying..........
pat

Thank you, point well taken. I just want to get him into the best possible hands. The research for quality care is mind boggling. When we find the best doctor and place, we will then roll with whatever is needed. I know some of the best facilities are in NY, Texas, and in the North. My husband wants to stay in the Southeast if possible. We are looking hard at Vanderbilt. Thank you so much. Everyone seems to be helpful. :)
