Dear Webs,

During my 4 cycles of Cispl/Gemz I continued to enjoy alcohol on my good days and was just not interested in anything on my yucky days.

My tipple was either wine or beer or the odd gin and tonic with ice and a slice and I had no ill effects.

The thought of having neat spirits may cause a burning sensation if you have a sore throat or sores in your mouth.

As with everything moderation is the key

Webs,

On the fact sheet I received for Gemzar and Carboplatin it states that 'the drinking of alcohol (in small amounts) does not appear to affect the safety or usefulness of gemcitabine (Gemzar)' I know you are on Cisplatin so I can't speak to that.

I haven't tried any alcohol - although I would love to be sipping on a nice glass of wine. I just thought Iwould leave well enough alone....at least for now!

Best,
Gracie

Take it from one who tried... Don't do the hard stuff. I think that is why the indians called it firewater. The alcohol burnt so bad ice water wouldn't even cool it off!!! Wine didn't work either. I was able to do a couple of beers though. I really wouldn't try it if I were you...

Chemotherapy and cocktails. was created by Webs
Hey everybody,

I'm trying to get to the bottom of this. Is there a specific reason that the doctor says no drinking during chemo? I remember reading something that says chemo is less affective if you drink, but does this include the occasional cocktail? I know it's not earth shattering just curious.
