Kathk,

Oh no, I was knocked out for that procedure...it would be too painful otherwise for the doc to laser and then retrieve the stones...lucky for me, I had no discomfort afterwards or blood...think he did a good job.

He did advise lemon juice, 1 teaspoon to glass of water, but even that waw too irritating to my bladder....I am thinking of trying some apple cider vineger mixed with glass of water. I'm not sure why I have had these but want to avoid them in future somehow...I have tried Cranberry capsules and they too are too irritating to the bladder and stoma. I can drink cramberry juice mixed with rasberry or grape, etc. and am OK with that.

In regard to my surgery....
For some reason, following this surgery, my feet and ankles have been swollen; the left much moreso than the right...when I relayed this info. to my doc yesterday, he was concerned there might be a blood clot so today had me get an ultra sound done on that leg...but veins look good. Glad that isn't a problem. Sometimes with being a BC warrior, I have to ask, what next? One new adventure after another...still & all I am so very, very blessed to still be here. Melodie

Rick,

I had no signs at all...the doc saw them on my last CT scan in late May...but saw only one and apparently it had grown quite a bit since then. I really want to avoid those rascals...the framents clog my catheter still. Melodie

Melodie,
I am glad that you were able to get all the stones out OK.
What were your signs that you had bladder stones?

I WONDER: From reading Pat's post on this string, I was wondering if the stones are caused by the intestine piece they use for your diversion. Because us Bag People with an Illeal Conduit use the same portion of intestine for our diversion, is there a chance we will have bladder stones too?

I never had kidney stones. With the recent Gall Stone problem I had, being stoned once is enough for me.

Take Care
Rick

Hi Melodie. I'm so sorry to hear about your complications. Being fully conscious for a 2 1/2 hr. procedure must have been nervewracking (sp?). I can't imagine!
When my husband had kidney stones lemon juice was suggested. I would make homemade lemonade (heavy on the lemon) and he handled it fine. But he was a pretty big guy. Did you dilute the lemon juice with water? The lemon juice was recommended to him for the pain, not prevention.
My Dr. wants me to take cranberry concentrate pills to make the urine more acid which is supposed to help avoid UTIs. Each tablet equals a whole lot of cranberry juice. In Nature's Bounty brand, 2 tablets = 10,800 fresh cranberries. You can get them at any drugstore. The most concentrated ones are made by Solray, available at health food stores.
Adding vinegar to my saline solution was briefly mentioned once but never followed up. I don't know a thing about bladder stones but wanted to pass on the little I know about making urine more acid. I hope this is your last experience with stones. Take care, Kathy
