Karl,
Thank you, Thank you, Thank you. I am scheduled for surgery this Thursday 11/15, and I am having a neo. I agonized over this for weeks and was all set to go with the Indiana pouch and catheriters for the rest of my life. But the surgeon made me feel so confident about the neo that that is now my first choice (God willing the frozen biopsy during surgery says it's a go).
Your up lifting post helps, me to know it is ok, and the neo was the right choice.
I hope in 4 months I can post the same as you. Thank you for the good thought your post has given me.

Liz

Carmine, somthing I found invaluable was the tales from the trenches section of the bladder web cafe website. You may have already read it, but just incase, here is the link: blcwebcafe.org/stories.asp The storys of real people having real operations and sharing their experences was such a great help to prepare me for what was to come.
I wish you all the best. If there is anything else I can help with – please ask.

Maria, “the fear of the unknown” was something that gripped me also. But the more I read up on and found out as much as I could regarding what was ahead – the more I
came to understand and what to expect, which in turn eased some of the worry.

Take care,

Karl

I concur wholeheartedly with you Karl. scary and uncomfortable though it is in places, the neo op is, in the hands of a decent surgeon, a get throughable procedure. you'll have tough times but not nearly as bad as I expected either and a working neo is a modern miracle. if things go well, Carmine, you'll forget you peed any other way. Im a year down the line and, apart from the odd issue (nighttime dryness is still not 100% - but manageable and improving), things are still going well. best of luck mate and ask any questions.

all the best

tim

Hi Karl

I am pleased you are making good progress. I am due for surgery, not sure when. I am scared of what is ahead, its reassuring to hear you say it is not as bad as what you think. In all of this, well for me, it is fear of the 'unknown' that gets to me.
I wish you well and hope your recovery continues positive.

Thinking of you for tomorrow Carmine.........I may be having chemo before surgery too, I'll have to contact you to compare notes.

Maria xx
