I am not sure the "monkey" ever leaves the back of our minds as I am almost 12 years post along with Sara Anne. However, something else will probably do us in now other than bladder cancer so I'd say we are "cured". The best two items out of this: it is one day at a time and I feel I simply have gotten better and more effective in living my life. The experience truly has made me a more rounded person!

DX 5/6/2008 TAG3 papillary tumor .5 CM in size. 2 TURBS followed by 6 instillations of BCG weekly with a second round of 6 after a 6 week wait.

My uro says you have a better chance of no recurrence with every year that passes. BUT annual exams "forever."
There is a subtle difference between a recurrence (your original cancer comes back) and a new occurrence. Remember that SOMETHING led to your bladder lining cells becoming unstable and cancerous. That makes you statistically more likely to have a new cancer.

You probably won't ever have it again, but stay vigilant!

I had operation to remove spot of cancer on my bladder 15 years a go. Never had Chemo or radiation. Had BCG treatments. Have had bladder scoped and CT scan every year since. Go in next week for regular yearly check. Can I ever say I'm cured ?...thanks..JV..
