Really scared

I am about 10 days ahead of you in diagnosis and know exactly where your anxiety is coming from. I have spent numerous sleepless nights, and actually have had more emotional aberrations (that whats men who are supposed to be big and strong call "crying" ) than in a working and past military career. I feel I must stay strong for my children but I recommend to let your emotions out as it isn't good to bottle them up. I have a special friend that I have talked the issue out with on several occasions and somehow it does make you feel somewhat better. You are absolutely not alone in your quest for answers. At this point in your diagnosis your fears are based on the unknown.
Get your cystoscopy done, get the results, and then you can work from facts. Your level of worrying may be able to be put aside at that time, or maybe your ordeal will continue, but your health issue has to addressed and you are taking the actions you should take.
My tumor will be removed on next Friday and it's five times larger than yours and I have had occasional symptoms for two years. I am pretty uptight right now but I have reached the realization that the situation isn't going to get any better if I don't take action, I will not have my questions answered if I don't take action, and my physical and mental health isn't going to make any gains until the problem is addressed.
Good luck with your cystoscopy and keep posting to help support everyone.

Thank you Alan for the quick response and your advice. It helps to talk to someone who is familiar with this type of cancer. I did have a CT scan and what scared me was that the report stated it was most likely a tumor. Urologist didn't want to comment on it until cystoscopy. I can't wait for my cystoscopy on Wednesday. Going to try to take your advice. I feel my emotions comes in waves, I have good moments with the "I will be alright feeling" and really bad ones with "I will not see my kids grow up". I am trying hard to hold on to the fact that if it is bladder cancer it is treatable and beatable...the not knowing part is almost unbearable.

Thanks again.
Marco

Marco,

Welcome. As your Doc said "one should not worry until there is something to worry about". Yes, easier said than done. Until you have a cystoscopy you really won't know much. Ultrasounds are not the normal battery of tests to detect bladder cancer. It is a CT Scan along with a cystoscopy and cytology. What the ultrasound showed could very well not be a tumor so take it one day at a time. 10MM (or 1CM) IF it is anything is considered small on most scales.

IF the scope shows something actually to investigate you will probably be given the CT scan and what is called a TURB (transurethral resection of the bladder) to to cut/burn any growth and send to pathology. Only then after the pathology report is done will you know anything. And, yes, if it is actually a growth some are NOT cancerous. Let's simply hope the scope ends any reason to go further.

Last comment. In the event it is bladder cancer this is very treatable and beatable.

DX 5/6/2008 TAG3 papillary tumor .5 CM in size. 2 TURBS followed by 6 instillations of BCG weekly with a second round of 6 after a 6 week wait.

Hi
I just joined today. I am 47 yr old male. I have no symptoms of BC, no blood in urine, back pain etc.. I went hospital on may 14, for some stomach pain which might be due to gall stones. However, during investigation the CT scan and ultrasound showed a lesion in my bladder with 10mm diameter and 12 mm long. I have my cystoscopy on Wednesday. I am so frightened, I have two young boys at home. The urologist told me not to worry until there is something to worry about. This is easier said than done, I don't have that personality. I am worried all the time, wake up in middle of night and feel such a deep sadness. My question...are there anyone with experiences of bladder lesions/mass that are not cancerous? Are the chances of it being benign slim? Everyone tells me to think positive that it's a benign polyp or other benign mass, considering i have no symptoms but my research indicates that most of these protusions are cancerous. Second question. Is 10mm diameter considered large. ?

Thank you
Marco
