BCG postponed

Matt, you are very fortunate to have an excellent urologist! It is a good thing that she did a biopsy. CIS is high grade and nothing to fool around with. Fortunately BCG can be very effective in treating it. It is not unusual to have this missed on a biopsy since it appears as a “rash “ on the surface of the bladder, not as a discrete tumor. It was probably there before the TURB. My CIS was also discovered on a second TURB.

So the biopsy revealed CIS - it is unclear whether this represents progression or just residual disease post TURBT. In any event, I healed pretty well and was able to get my first BCG treatment this morning. In fact it is currently in my bladder doing its thing. I have some weird sensations in there, not pain, just more of an awareness that something is in there. As happy as I am that I am finally starting treatment I can’t wait to pee this out!

Thank you all for your responses and advice.

Matt

WOW!! That is an interesting development! Your urologist is probably correct since it would be very unlikely that any bladder cancer would spread that fast. Urologists love to diagnose "cystitis" which simply means an irritated bladder. And it certainly is possible that the TURB with all the samples being taken might cause this. It is good that she took a sample of the irritated area for biopsy....that should tell you a bit more about what is going on.

IF it is just irritation (ie, "angry bladder") it should heal and you can go on with treatment. Please let us know what the result is

Thanks for the helpful info.

I had a Cysto today - uro said bladder looked “angry”. She thought it was probably inflammation from the TURBT but it was all throughout the bladder, not just at the surgical site. She took a biopsy of one of the worst areas.

Obviously I am concerned about disease progression but she didn’t think that was likely.

Anyone else have a Cysto result like this? Remember this is not from BCG, I haven’t even started that yet.

Thanks in advance,
Matt

I was warned by my URO that I would probably pass a clot 14-17 days post and he was right, otherwise it would have freaked out. Plus, I have a single, small tumor thus the passing would most likely be smaller and less bleeding.

DX 5/6/2008 TAG3 papillary tumor .5 CM in size. 2 TURBS followed by 6 instillations of BCG weekly with a second round of 6 after a 6 week wait.

I had a secondary round of minor bleeding and clot passing starting about 7 weeks after my second TURB in December, visible blood (off and on) at either beginning or end of stream for about 2 weeks. No blood in urine sample at 12-week cystoscopy. Doc said it's still healing in there. He got muscle tissue for biopsy during TURB, so I figure deeper cut took longer to heal. Good luck, Stu.
