Having TURBT to have small 5mm tumor removed- Can I refuse BGC treatment

Yes you can it is your body!

However I would advise that you allow your Dr. to administer the BCG treatments.

I have had 3 bladder scrapings aprox a month apart along with BCG treatments.

I have been cancer free for 2 years just found out it is back now in my Urethra just outside my bladder, next month having bladder, prostrate, and part of my urethra and lymph nodes removed and having an Ileio conduit with an ostomy with external urine collection bag.

Just my 2 cents morth.

All the best to you.

Blessings,
Tim

Just a note that my dad had two TURBTs but didn't have mitomycin wash.

It is done as part of the procedure while you are still asleep. Won’t even know you had it.

They won’t know with 100% certainty until the path report is back. However, an experienced urologist has a pretty good idea.

The mitomycin wash is usually done regardless of whether the doc thinks it is cancer or not.
And he may not tell you his “guess” before the path report is back because his guess could be wrong.

One thing I'm confused about is how does one know a bladder tumor is actually cancer until after the pathology test?

Hi, do they always give a mitomycin wash after a TURBT? The first urologist I saw said that I wouldn't even need a catheter after the Surgery. I haven't been informed by the surgeon urologist about anything to do with what will happen

. I am planning to talk to him just before the operation.
