That is interesting I imagine you could pick through. I had my Indiana done by Gary Stienberg at UCH he probably has done one of the highest volumes of anyone around and that was never mentioned to me. At first you go very very gently as it is all new. As time goes on you get quicker at it and I have poked myself a bit but I can feel it and draw back quickly I also use a soft catheter I am not sure it could do a lot of damage. As with anything you have to be careful, but in ten years I have never had a problem. When I had my RC done I talked to three top Urological Surgeons. I knew I wanted an Indiana what I found was how they felt about a diversion was directly related to how many they did of a diversion. If they liked them high volume if not low volume. I picked one that liked indiana's and did a lot of them, volume and good outcome is linked in studies. Once trained my Indiana has served me well.

Well it's a start, thank you for replying. My surgeon says he likes the Indiana pouch least of all. The reason for this is, he says patients have a tendency to get anxious and end up poking the cath through the lining just inside the stoma. I feel I would be ok, and not get anxious. It also seems to be the most continent choice, do to my activity. How has it been for you?

I have to make a decision on which procedure to have. Neo, Indiana , or osteomy. I'm now leaning towards the Indiana. I'm 53 and very active and this seems to be the most continent of the three. Are there any men out there who have had this procedure, that would be will to share there experience with this procedure. I'm scheduled for surgery January 23rd. Running out of time to make my decision.
