Rock,

Do keep in mind that a blood test for Creatinine AND GFR are the same test - Creatinine is measured, then that measurement is adjusted for age, gender, body size and race to produce a GFR number. So actually, only ONE test has been made, and an estimate of kidney function has been calculated.

As SaraAnne said - Call the Doc with any questions or concerns. S/he will undoubtedly ask how much urine output you have per hour (or day), so be ready to provide that info. It is easy enough for the doc to send you out for a urine test if the output suggest a possible problem.

Hi there! So glad to hear that, for the most part, you are doing well!

Since we are not doctors, we can't diagnose your problem exactly. Assume you have discussed this with the surgeon, since you have been told to drink lots of fluids. And since the urine is flowing the kidneys appear to be working (how is that for a medical opinion? ) If you still have concerns, and it seems that you do, call and ask again about it. Be persistent.

If your urologist is not worried about these issues, then you shouldn't be either, Remember that you have had MAJOR surgery and are dealing with recovery as well as a totally new reality, both physically and mentally.

Here's wishing you all the best on your continued recovery!

kidney issues after RC ? was created by rocksteady
Hello All, I had my RC 8.1.16 and haven't had many problems. They say they got it all after taking my bladder, prostate and lymph nodes. I had CIS which they say did not invade the muscle layer but kept recurring after 3 BCG series. I am a little concerned about my kidneys. The usual tests like creatinine, GFR etc are showing poor levels. Of coarse they told me to drink more water. We have a retropertineal ultrasound scheduled in a few weeks.
What happens to the kidneys after an RC w/ ileal conduit? Are they more susceptible to disease? My urine is super strong of ammonia.
Thanks in advance
Rocksteady
