Thanks, Alan!!!
We just came from my husband's first BCG treatment, he has another half hour with it in him. The whole experience was so much better than we expected!!!!
Take care,
Joanne

That second TURB is very important and pretty standard protocol. I didn't understand that until after it was done. You are on the way to beating this.

DX 5/6/2008 TAG3 papillary tumor .5 CM in size. 2 TURBS followed by 6 instillations of BCG weekly with a second round of 6 after a 6 week wait.

He had more than one tumor, the largest was less than 2 cm. The Urologist said he gotten all the cancer out at that time. When my husband had his re-resection it was almost four weeks later, the Dr. said that his bladder was still pretty raw and bleeding a bit. The Dr. re-cauterized a few areas and at that time he did another biopsy and made sure there was no cancer left anywhere. My husband bounced back from this one quickly. He will be starting BCG on Oct. 14 for the six weeks, and has a follow up with Dr. on Dec. 20. If all goes well he will start his BCG maintenance for the next three years after that visit. My husband is being treated at a local hospital, maybe that's why things moved quickly, but if things are not to my liking (I am a bit pushy) at some point we will go into Boston (we are an hr. away) for treatment. Best Dr's in the world there!!!!

Thanks Joanne.

I was diagnosed about the same time as your husband (late August) but he's already into his BCG treatment. My second TURBT isn't scheduled until early November. My doctor said because my tumor was so big that he wanted to give my bladder time to heal. My tumor was over 6 cm x 6 cm x 1.5. If you don't mind my asking, how large was your husband's tumor?

08/16/16 - TURBT - 1 tumor, T1HG, 7.5 cm x 7.5 cm x 1.8 cm, non-invasive papillary.
BCG treatments (15 doses total - last March, 2018). As of latest cysto, As of May 4, 2023 - cancer free!

Hi John,
Sending good vibes your way. My husband's second TURBT was much easier than the first, hopefully it will be the same for you. He felt really good the next day, just make sure you drink lots of water and have AZO handy. Mike M. suggested to look up Steve Kelley's blog (I just googled it), very informative and interesting, lots to read.
Take care,
Joanne

I am in the same boat as your husband (T1HG). I guess we are the class of 2016. I go for my second TURBT Nov 2. Hopefully they will start BCG soon after that (if they don't find any remaining or new cancer).

Good luck to you and your husband.
