Neo, Indiana, or Conduit

Cleveland Clinic claims that with the IC urine could back up into the kidneys and there could be stone formation. How can this be when the urine drains out of the body into a bag. When I was in the hospital for my RC, the lady sharing the room with me was in there to have 31 stones removed from her Indiana pouch. Curious

Thank you, George! This site is such a great support--so glad my oncologist recommended it!

Good for you!
You have indeed been following this site!
We always recommend a second opinion.
You just need to find a Dr. that clicks for you.... And knows his stuff.

Sara Anne:

I appreciate that. I have read many of your responses on this forum and they are always so full of great information. This are two great ideas.

I am going to see another surgeon on Monday to see what he says. My current surgeon is a little too brilliant for me to understand sometimes! He is a professor in a teaching hospital where most urologists in Birmingham and Alabama get their training, and I know he was one of the first doctors who pioneered robotics for Radical Cystectomies.

Can't get enough information though!!!!

Oh thank you so much!

My surgeon said he wouldn't know if I would be a good candidate for the neo until he got in there and assessed if my pelvic floor had enough support for it. I think I saw that statistic you mentioned somewhere too. I think the pouch sounds like fewer long-term problems. I will be back with more questions I am sure!

Thank you for your quick response! I thought it would take several days and I would be biting my nails...

Hello Sparks sorry you have to be here but welcome to our community. I think I once read but not sure we're that three out of ten women with neos experience either hyper or inconstance. I am not sure what the stats are for men but while they can experience the same it seems that we hear more of night time inconstance with men.

The truth of the matter is that there is no perfect choice they all can have issues. I have an naval stoma with a Indiana Pouch and am happy with it. It sometimes gets pouchitis and will leak a little but I have gotten used to dealing with its occasional moods. No matter what you decide Indianas and Neos have a training period and all have a learning curve.

We do not have woman active right now with a Neo but maybe one of our lurkers will chime in. If you have any questions about the Indiana let me known.
