Hello All,

Again, for anyone searching the internet and wanting to find peace of mind on this topic, I will issue my final follow up on this thread.

Its been almost a year since I posted last, and roughly 8 months after my biopsies that came up negative, I had another FISH test and the results were all negative.

So as a summary in a little over 18 months I had 2 FISH tests ( 3 months apart) that came back positive (borderline) and 8 months later a FISH test that came back negative.

Unless something changes - like another hematuria instance, then I am no longer considered at risk.

Looking back on these posts I can remember the anxiety and stress in my life - and I hope that my follow up on here can help anyone who is searching for answers.

Thanks for posting...so often we sit and wait anxiously and don't hear the ending of the story...

For what it is worth, if you had general anesthesia and they took biopsy samples, it was a TURB.

And as Hudsongirl mentioned, one of the problems with FISH tests is that they have a lot of false positive results.

hello all

I just wanted to touch back on this thread - mainly for anyone that is going thru this because I know how stressed I was this past year with the uncertainty.

As stated before, on Oct 2 I had a cystoscopy with 5 biopsies and uterine washings

With a simple cystoscopy I had earlier in the year the recovery time was about 36 hours, but with this procedure I was still passing blood clots as late as November 17. It wasn't until late November that I can say I didn't feel any of the effects of the cystoscopy - not to say I was in pain but I could still feel restricted urine flow and pressure. I also had occasional flank pain - pain is a stretch but a noticeable sensation I assume is related to the kidneys and washings from the procedure

Anyway, my only reason for posting this is to just provide as much information as I can about my experience in the hopes that it helps answer questions for someone else down the road.

All is well at this point with a follow up urine sample in a few months

Best Wishes for good health to all who read this.

Hi there, I have been following your posts because my husband had a FISH test due to them finding a few atypical cells on his last urine cytology that accompanied his cysto on his yearly bladder cancer check up. His FISH came back negative, but I have done reading on the test and was prepared for him to have to do exactly what you had done had it come back positive.

That being said, as others have commented, the FISH test is known to have false positives. After all your biopsies and physical looking with scopes plus the CT scan being negative, I think you can be 99% certain the docs are not missing anything. Nothing (and I do mean nothing) in medicine is 100%, so, I would try to not waste much time worrying about the "what ifs". You got great news. Do your best to not dwell on it and enjoy your clean bill of urological health :-)
