Please read the new post from today "just diagnosed yesterday". His CT scan came back "normal" but when they did the cystcopy the docter found a 5mm polyp that they will need to remove and test....his case pretty much says it all. Warren.

Get the cystoscopy. Even if the CT scan doesn't show anything you should STILL get the cystoscopy.

Blood with no other symptom can be bladder cancer and you want to rule that out. The doctor should look.

It's not a really big deal. I know it sounds a little scary (actually, it never sounded scary to me at all but it's not something I'd do for fun either) but you NEED it done.

Your urologist saying that you don't need the cystoscopy if the CT is normal...he's wrong. You could have superficial bladder cancer and not have it show up on CT. Don't let it go until it becomes invasive.

It's a little tube that they insert and the camera lens is inside it. It's like he's trying to show TV camera through there.

Dear Scared,

I hope for your sake it is just a UTI. But please, the next time you are asked to have a camera shoved up anywhere by a doctor, your answer should be "YES".

The doctors aren't doing this for the fun or the money. They are doing it because it is the best and most certain way to check the bladder and kidneys out.

As for as the pain, it hurts much less than stubbing you toe. For a little while after you will feel like you have to pee like you've never had to before. That will pass in about a day. Then you will be back to normal in about two or three days.

If you go get the scope done and feel that something might not be right, or even if you have a dumb question. Come right back here and talk to us. We will help you through it all we can.

Sorry to yell, but this is not something to be taken lightly. Early detection is the key to surviving cancer.

I had blood in my urine with no pain at all....after looking up the symptoms online I figured it was a "stone" even though I didn't have any pain. When the doctor scheduled me for a CT scan the same day I saw him and the bladder-cam for the next day I started to worry. The next day I was told I had cancer.

Urologist are taught the rule, " blood with no pain is cancer until proven otherwise". The odds back them up...I hope it is a stressed liver or something not bad but get the systoscopy, it takes 5 minutes and can save your life. Warren

My advice? Let the urologist do the cystoscopy (camera). I do understand that it is more uncomfortable for a male than for me, but if you read this Forum you will see that MANY men have done it and it is very doable. It is UNCOMFORTABLE...not fatal, which is what cancer is!!

Bladder cancer is rare (but not unknown) at your age. However, there are other things that can cause blood in the urine. I am amazed that you were not sent directly to a urologist two years ago. A number of years ago my father saw a slight pink tinge in his urine..just once. He did go to a urologist and they found cancer in one of his kidneys. He never had visible blood in his urine before or after...just the once. He had the kidney removed and lived for over 30 years more, succumbing to something totally different.

These warning signs are just that...warning signs. If a problem is found and can be taken care of promptly you will be good for a long time!
