Warren,

I had mine in four four days, untill the doctor told me I could remove it. It comes out pretty well if you remember to drain the ballon. I can't imagine what it would be like to forget that! :woohoo:

Remember that you might still need to take the antispasum meds for the next couple of days, to keep the bladder from trying to make you want to crawl into a corner and sob.I tossed them out with the cath. MISTAKE!!

The doctor told me that the cath they use for bladder surgery is much larger, and a heck of a lot more uncomfortable, than the ones used just to drain the bladder.

Glad to hear your among the living again. Now if the burnning would just stop you may be able to relax soon.

Hope the report is good!

Warren,

You are one brave man! I was reading Doug this thread --it brought back some painful memories; he always says to his doctor before surgery, "Now, remember, don't put in a catheter if at all possible!"

Glad you are healing.

I understand the erection problem now...I never thought I would be afraid to get one! Any how, I read online how some doctors instruct people to take them out at home and I just followed those instructions. Now Monday I can go to the urologist and just deal with the pathology report. Thanks, Warren.

After an RC, there aren't any erections for a while so the catheter isn't so bad. At least not in the same way. Also there are much bigger issues going on after the surgery. When you are feeling like you were hit head on by a semi, you're not so worried about a catheter.

Wow Warren... that's like the McGyver method of catheter removal! I had one for almost 4 weeks after my surgery but it's a totally different experience for women. Uncomfortable but tolerable for the most part.

Glad you're feeling better!

Best wishes... Catherine

I couldn't stand the catheter any longer and took it out this morning...I don't know how anyone could put up with one of those for any length of time!! By the time I got the advice about keeping it lubricated it was already too late and I had lost skin on the tip where the catheter was rubbing. After three nights of waking myself up when I moved and bumped the hose I couldn't take it any more and pulled it out. I wouldn't have if I there had been any blood in the urine or clots but I had nothing this whole time....maybe a little fleck once a day.

Any how, I snipped the balloon end with sissors and after it drained it almost came out on it's own...it only needed a couple kegels. I am happy I can sit down again and don't have any pain down there now. Again, I don't know how anyone could last with one in them after a RX for a few weeks!! Warren :)
