Sounds like you have a good plan, Kenneth. I was diagnosed with bladder cancer in May 2001 and am doing well. Hope you will also!

Pat's Doc's are the ones that always popped up in my research on MD Anderson. I believe you have made the correct decision with your parameters. You'll have peace of mind. Please keep us posted and how Anderson handles things. We all learn from everyone. Who knows if I'll be there someday!

Believing you'll do fine.

PS: There are many motels close by besides the Rotary House (option #19-which connects via walkways and is close). Google or I believe the Anderson site accesses more. www.mdanderson.org/patient-and-cancer-information/patient-care-essentials/your-first-appointment/index.html

DX 5/6/2008 TAG3 papillary tumor .5 CM in size. 2 TURBS followed by 6 instillations of BCG weekly with a second round of 6 after a 6 week wait.

My Uro's nurse told me today that the Doc had done thousands of these procedure(I'm thinking that was a slight exaggeration). I asked about referrals to Anderson and was told that he has never referred anybody to them as far as she knows.Maybe he refers to another place? I think I am going to tell them tommorrow to cancel the procedure for the 28th and get all my med.records together for me to pick up. I will keep ya'll informed on my journey to Houston. Thanks Again for all the help and kind words! Ken

Ken.2 weeks is nothing. It is always advised to have a re-turb within 6 weeks of the original and a second path report always a good idea and MD Anderson will not have any slackers present in that area either.
See if you can get in with Kamat, Grossmann, or Dinney.
You're very fortunate to live so close to a top cancer center with top uro/surgeons. They will want copies of all your reports and scans and pathology report including the slides. The hospitals are very good at providing these for you in a timely fashion...just give them a heads up is all.
Second opinion always the way to go.
Pat

Ken,

Re-reading your original post and the added complexity of stones found in the kidney I believe I'd use MD Anderson. I know how you feel as many people encouraged me to go straight there. I stayed local ONLY after I was satisfied about the local guy's expertise. That being said, being local he won't have as much backup and resorces that Anderson has. Everyone's case/situation is different. My first TURB revealed (he saw it was tiny with the cystoscope) it was .5CM BUT, the most important thing is how deeply it had invaded the bladder-which was stage 1 (non muscle). That is all that I was dealing with combined with the CT scan. With your extra variables a bigger center would look better to me. It is difficult. It will also be likely even after 1 TURB, a need to be safe, have a second. Should there be kidney involvement, Anderson will have more backup. My guess is you will do fine. Anderson has many motels including a Marriot "Rotary House" lodge that is only for use patients. www.mdanderson.org/patient-and-cancer-information/care-centers-and-clinics/care-centers/genitourinary/index.html and the Rotary House: www.mdanderson.org/patient-and-cancer-information/guide-to-md-anderson/services-and-amenities/rotary-house-international/index.html

As Rocky said, get it right the first time.
