Ken..where are you in Texas? MD Anderson suspects that kidney stones might be a link to bladder cancer but no long term studies on it.

Depending on where you are in Texas (it is a BIG state!), UT Southwestern in Dallas has great bladder cancer docs, too.

MD Anderson is one of top places in the country.

The better the docs, the better the TURBT, diagnosis, and treatment

Should I let my Urologist do the TUR or should I go to a Cancer Center here in Texas to continue the diagnosis process?

Waiting for the TUR ! was created by Kenneth
I am a 55 yr.old man that was told on 5/19/10 that I had bladder cancer.I have a history of kidney stones and I thought thats what was happening again. I had a CT/IVP and it showed 2 small stones 1 in each kidney. I decided to go to my urologist because I thought that there must be a stone lodged somewhere in the urinary path due to the problems I was having. He found microscopic blood in my urine and scheduled a cystoscopy of the bladder and bladder wash,he prescribed 2 weeks of antibiotics and I went home. On the 19th I went back and was told that the results of the bladder wash was not good and that I had bladder cancer. Well I had this feeling of "tunnel vision" for a few seconds and just kinda stared at him. He told me that I needed a Bladder biopsy and a "TUR",he explained that he would remove the cancer and cauterize any areas that needed it. I mumbled something about "How bad is it ?" and was told we have to wait for the pathology. Well I'm pretty shaken by then and just sit there. The nurse comes in and we sart the paperwork for the TUR. The surgery is scheduled for 5/28 with another CT on the 24th. These days have just been dragging along, 9 days seems a long way away. I apologize for this long post but I needed to get it out. I still am trying to sort this out right now. I do appreciate having a place to air this out. Thanks for ya'lls time.
