Hi dpoe, I grew up in the Pittsburg area. After I found out i had bc I went to john Hopkins. It isn't hard to get there at all and I also saw Dr Schoenberg , he is a great guy. I had my app in two weeks. I wonder if John Hopkins is closer for you than Cleavland.
Don't be to nervous you just need to get a second opinion with a specialist thats all , nothing to get to upset over.
The bladder cancer part of John Hopkins isn't scary at all, you walk out of the parking garage and it is right in front of you. And the people are very nice. Rocky

It IS very treatable IF YOU GO WHERE THEY KNOW HOW TO TREAT IT!!!

Glad to see that you are going to call and go. That's what you need to do. Can't help you with fear of big hospitals.
Big hospitals are where you go to get fixed. The doctor that graduates in the top of his class and has the best experience in the world is not practicing in a little podunk hospital in the woods somewhere (unless he's hiding from his ex-wife, the law or in a witness protection program).

Podunk hospital: Not very treatable but they will try and they will charge you lots of money for a poor outcome.

Major bladder cancer center: VERY treatable, worth the money.

Don't worry about the nerve pills or water pills.
Smoking: Good you quit. That's the leading indicator. Not everyone who smokes gets it and not everyone who gets it smokes. There is a preponderence of evidence to suggest a causal link to smoking. Not the other stuff so don't worry about the other stuff.

I have not had a lot of experience making appointments aside from my own. We reside in Florida. However, the BEST docs so to increase my husbands chances of the BEST results are not here in Florida. Consequently, we have to fly into NYC. My recent experience was, I called the doctors office last week, they asked me to fax my husbands CT scan and pathology report to them right away. I did. They called me back within 30 minutes and were prepared to give me an appointment in a week. However, because we were requesting a particular doctor who was away at conference, we took a June 16th appointment. Either way, the appointment was given to us within a week to two weeks.
You are going to feel so much more relieved once you have spoken to the docs who are considered the best at RC's. I bet you will even toss your nerve pills out the door. :-)
Now do as the wonderful people here have instructed you to do. They have dedicatd their lives to helping others. You obviously came here because you had questions in your mind even after seeing your doctor...so heed their advice, relax, see a little bit of Cleveland..have that nice lunch..bring along a friend...and you will do just fine. We are all here for you.
Get some rest now.. :-)

Does it take long to get appointments at these facilities? It depends on when my appointment is as who I will be asking to go with me. You are right, I'll make a day of it. I have never really been at Cleveland, passing by it, but never there.

Big hospitals have more equipment and more staff and specialist on board to treat your medical problems. Truthfully, they are not there to scare you..and they won't eat you up. I can promise you that! I personally have never been to Cleveland, but many others have. They will treat you well. Have you decided who you are going to be taking with you? Think of it as an adventure...treat yourself to a nice lunch in the big city. You'll do just fine! Keep us all posted. We are eager to hear how it goes.
Proud of you that you have made the decision to treat your body like a GEM! You deserve the BEST.
Good Luck,
Cheryl
