Actually Hootie I had a helical ct scan and they found no stones in kidneys or bladder. Infection has been ruled out, so I go for my 2nd opinion on the cystectomy diagnosis of "bladder rash" on the 18th.
I prefer to think it's nothing rather than something serious. I had cancer in May 2006, and it's actually a very scary things when hear the diagnosis, and worry about your family and friends.
I wish you luck, and hope yours is nothing serious. Thinking positive for you ;)

it could possibly be a squamous cell carcinoma. you should get a urine cytology.. its the easiest test. did the ultrasound and ct scan check your bladder as well or was it just an abdominal one? a stone could be in your ureter and cause pain.. they often don't show up on scans.

Hi,Rooster

I understand your concern and can guess how difficult it is waiting for the exam. I had similiarsymptoms (except for the amt of blood in the urine) some years ago that turned out to be interstitial cystitis. I still get bouts of it from time to time especially when stressed such as when things are happening with my husband's bladder cancer. So try not to scare yourself . Good luck.

Hi, Rooster,

And welcome.

First of all, 37 is not too young for BC. We have some forum posters here who were younger at diagnosis.

The fact that you are a smoker may put you at a higher risk, but there are others here who have never smoked (me included) who have BC. Also, BC is rarer in females than in males, but the numbers seem to be rising.

I am sure that you feel anxious about the cystoscopy tomorrow. If BC is causing the blood in your urine, the Doctor should be able to tell you after he takes a look.

The other symptoms that you describe (pain, etc) do not sound familiar to me, though I cannot speak for others.

I hope you will come back after the test tomorrow and tell us the outcome.

Good luck. We are here if you need us.

Hello Everyone, I am new, and just found your site after searching the net frantically for info about bladder cancer. I have not been diagnosed yet, cystoscopy scheduled for tomorrow. My experience so far...I had a hysterectomy in May 2006 for cervical cancer, plus nine surgeries in the last year to remove basal cell carcinomas. I went to my 6 mo check up in Dec and have been feeling a general vague like pain when my bladder fills up. I also feel like I have menstral cramps, but have no uterus. My gyno checked my urine and said I had a lot of blood in it. 4+ whatever that means. He did an ultrasound and found fluid in my body cavity, but nothing else, then scheduled me that day for a helical CT scan. The injected something in my arm that made me feel like my body was having a major hot flash, but found no kidney stones and said kidney looked fine. I do not have a uti infection. I was then sent to a urologist. I asked my gyno what could cause blood in the urine, he said stones, infection, or maybe bladder cancer. I am no stranger to cancer...obviously. At the urologist, he inserted a catheter and withdrew urine and looked at it under a microscope, and said there definately was a lot of blood in it, and scheduled me for a cystoscopy for tomorrow. I asked him too what could cause it and he said I am at risk for bladder cancer since I smoke. Bad I know, I need to quit. He also said my urine was very diluted and got kind of crabby about it. I have measured my liquid intake and it's about 2 liters a day. I have had to urinate about every 15 min to every 1/2 hour for quite some time 2 years + my kids tease me about this terribly.
My question: Aren't I too young for bladder cancer? I am scared that because the urologist said bladder cancer and scheduled the cystoscopy that he is thinking that is what it is. Sometimes I have to use my "muscles" to empty my bladder and it hurts. Are these symptoms of bladder cancer? Sorry this is so long, but I wanted to give all of the details. Thanks to all who answer!! :o
