Deciphering doctor\'s descriptions

The bladder expands as it fills and contracts as it empties, so there should be no nooks or crannies. The appearance of nooks or crannies, or a collapsed (rather than empty) appearance on an image suggests something is there creating that appearance. It does not tell you what, so the cystoscopy is the next step, and if there are possible tumors, a TURB after that.

If insurance allows and you should get a second opinion..i'd hop a train in to NYC to Memorial Sloan. They've got the top uro's there.

The color only indicates how much blood is in the urine at the time. Pink when there is a little bit of urine means less blood then pink when there is lots of urine. The bleeding comes and goes so it's good to get a look.

I don't know about the "collapsed" look. That could be more of a visual description of the scan than anything else (but again, I don't know).

I think the cysto is the right next step to get a good look.

Yes, from time of hematuria on 11/9 until the cystoscopy on 12/8, with the other tests in-between, this is moving along rather quickly.

I forgot to ask about the type of hematuria. I'd mentioned it was the visible type, but I didn't describe it. The urine was pink. Does the color indicate anything?

I'd also mentioned the hysterectomy; I suppose it goes without saying that the hematuria was not related to me getting confused with having my period!

I do feel comfortable with this urologist. And the fact that he called me at home was nice. (Although alarm bells went off in my head, I don't have Caller ID and hearing his voice startled me.) Do doctors, rather than their nurses, call only if it's "bad news"? So that is another thing for me to add to the list of concerns?

I know I sound like a nervous Nelly, sorry. That is why, even without any official diagnosis, I decided to post here. I'd been reading the forum for a couple of days and everyone is so supportive and informative.
