My Pathology Report came back AND.....

Good advice. Will do.

Something interesting did come up. My doc wanted me to continue taking FloMax after the surgery (wasnt the surgery to get me off FloMax?)....so I did. But I started thinking about that and exactly what FloMax does and I decided to quit taking it for a couple of days to see if that had any effect. Well, after just 24 hours, the pain is pretty much gone when I urinate. Some discomfort, but that stabbing pain is pretty much gone. So, I think the FloMax was somehow interacting with the TUIP surgery (they both target the same area) and causing spasms or something.

I am going to put a call into my surgeon today about this and see if he has seen something like this before. Also, maybe stop in for a quick urinalysis to see if I picked up a UTI. Either way, the pain is diminished which is good. We will see if it lasts.

Thanks for all the support and suggestions

Dean..definately follow up with your doctor as the pyridine is a pain killer and could mask what is really going on...and maybe nothing is going on...but well to check it out to make sure you don't have a UTI going on in there.

Well, I went ahead and took a dose of the Phenazopyridine and that seemed to help. I was an idiot however and forgot I took it and forgot about the urine discolorization and later when I went to the bathroom, I thought I was bleeding to death  with thoughts of passing out from blood loss and my co-workers finding me in the urinal with my pants around my ankles...

The doc actually did call me and follow up on how I was doing, but stupidly, I was so overjoyed with the pathology reports that I actually forgot to tell him about this pain. I will however call the office tomorrow and talk with them to see if it this normal. I will follow up with what he says on this thread so the "next guy" learns from it...I have a great doc so I think he will know exactly what is going on and what I should do about it, but the Pheno is working and the pain is diminished.

Personally, I think it is just a really bad spasm of some sort from a raw cut up prostate or bladder...we shall see.

Thanks for following up with me - appreciate it.

Dean,

I can't really say if this is normal or not. I did not have the kind of severe pain you are talking about. After my TUIP/TURBT I was on a plane two days after the procedure to go to MD Anderson for a 3rd opinion on the bladder cancer issues. I did take the pyridium for a few days and I did have some blood for a few days but that was about it.

I think you should really contact your doctor and tell him about it. It very well could be a normal thing depending on how much they did from both procedures. My doctor told me once before that even it feels like pain in the urethra, it is more likely the bladder that has the actual pain.

If it is making tears come to your eyes and lasts for 30 seconds each time, you definately should call them to see. Kind of surprised that ehy hadn't called you to follow up to see how you are doing.
Your Uro knows exactly what he did and how much was cut from where so he'd really be the best to advise you.

Sorry I couldn't be of more help. My case is only one case so that doesn't establish "normal" or "abnormal". Need a much bigger sample size.

My personal opinion (although I am not a doctor nor do I play one on TV) is that it more probably the bladder and not the TUIP.

Let us know what the doc says. It will probably be helpful for the next guy that gets TURBT/TUIP.

Mike - I think only you can answer this question (but maybe this is a TURB issue)...

It has been a full week since my surgery and I am having ALOT of pain upon urination. It really seems more TUIP related then TURB related. Still getting alittle blood which is to be expected.

Here is my question since you had both surgeries like me (TUIP+TURB)...(sorry women if this is TMI)...

But I urinate fine, flow is really strong and good (shorter then normal, maybe because volume has been increased), but after I finish and am done, I immediately get the worst sharp pain in the urethra/prostate area that lasts about 30 seconds. I mean, very strong burning. It doesnt hurt during urination, just afterwords. Did you have the same thing and do you believe it is:

a. Because the urethra was stretched, maybe I got some some tears in there because of the scope?
b. the prostate is spasming after urination and is the cause of this (TUIP)
c. the bladder is spasming after urination and is the case of this (TURB)

Or something else? I mean, I HATE to go to the bathroom because it hurts like hell. Funny, I dont get blood during urination, I actually get a couple of drops after I am finished when this spasm thing is occuring. It accompanies the terrible sharp burning pain.

And after a week, it is not getting any better. I am not on any meds or pain killers right now, did not take Phenazopyrridne because of the side effects, but I have a prescription here. Not sure it would work on these spasms anyway. I have heard from others who had TURBs that this can last for 6-8 weeks after TURB surgery, but the more I think about this, the more I think this is related to my prostate and the TUIP then the TURB. My surgeon never mentioned this could happen and before I put a call into him, I want to see if you have any experience with this.

What is also interesting is that I get less pain if I have a really full bladder from drinking alot of water or if I am full from eating. I get a heck of alot less spasm then I do from first waking up in the morning and having my first urination. THAT is a killer. Makes tears come to my eyes...Thank God it only lasts 30 seconds or so....

Thoughts? Recommendations? Is this normal?

Thanks for any advice you can give me.
