Yes, Patricia, I did have the CT scan. It came back fine--they said there were no abnormalities. He never mentioned a renal ultrasound, but thank you for bringing it up. When I get the results of the 24 hour urine thing, I'll ask him about that. I feel like he now thinks he's going to get rid of me and refer me to a nephrologist, or whatever they're called.

I haven't been doing any heavy exercise lately--6 weeks ago when this started, I'd started a more vigorous exercise program, and that is why I waited a couple of weeks before going to the doctor.

After my visit today, I googled kidney disease and found one site that said that sometimes they never find a cause for hematuria!!! I sure hope that's not the case here. I can't imagine going forever with this and not knowing a cause. It just doesn't seem right.

Jill..did you ever have the CT scan? i would think a renal ultrasound wouldn't be out of the question if not?.....definately heavy exercise can cause hematura but i'd still want the full workup. Pat

Well, it looks like I've lucked out as far as bladder cancer goes.

I had my cystoscopy today. He looked at my bladder very closely several times and said it looked clean. He seemed to be baffled about the reason for my hematuria.

The urine sample I gave prior to the cysto was fairly pink/red, but he said the urine in the bladder looked clean. He waited a bit for some urine to come down from the kidneys and thought a while, and then said our next step is a 24 hour urine capture. He thinks it may be some sort of kidney disease.

The OHSU urologist won't take a referral unless I'm diagnosed with bladder cancer, so I guess I'll just go ahead with the urine capture and see what happens.

I'm relieved--I was fairly sure I was going to get a bladder cancer diagnosis today, but I'm also frustrated, because I now have about six weeks of hematuria with no explanation...

I had a cysto at one doctor's office then TURB at the hospital with a second opinion doctor. After the TURB the doctor told my family it was ho hum procedure but he told me to go for a cat scan and then he told me it was highly invasive bladder cancer.

trying to learn how to take one day at a time.
