Almost a year ago when I was trying to figure out what was wrong with me, the doctor sent me in for an ultra-sound....this was my GYN doctor who was puzzled because I kept insisting something was wrong...anyway, when I went in, thank goodness, the lab technician asked me why I was there for an ultra-sound...after I told her about my bladder problems she was determined to get some good pictures of my bladder...my GYN doctor had asked only for "pelvic" photos.

Anyway, in an effort to rule out the colon, I scheduled a colonoscopy...and I asked the lab to send a copy of my ultra-sound report to both my GYN and to the guy who was doing the colonosscopy; the ultra-sound revealed there was something there and it was either the colon or the bladder...the colonoscopy report was good so then we knew I needed to see the urologist. And by the way, if your insurance will pay for your colonoscopy, find a good doctor and get it done. So far, of all the medical treatments I have had in the past year and there have been alot...the colonoscopy was a piece of cake. I have actually heard of some cases where individuals have had to give up both the bladder and the colon to cancer so it's worth the piece of mind. I'll pray you find a good doctor. Melodie

As for the colonoscopy its probably not a bad idea to have one at your age but it doesn't seem to address the bladder pain........Pat

Hi, hoping to get some feedback.
For over a year now I have been having occasional discomfort and mild pain in my bladder. I have asked my doctor to check it and all he has actually done was a urinalisis.
I have had a severe bladder infection once and for a period of about 6 years was a prolific producer of stones, the orange uric acid variety. Prolific means between three and two dozen a day small bb sized rocks. Prior to this I had one large stone removed by surgery. I have not passed a stone in about two and a half years.
I was a heavy smoker until about age thirty seven then about ten more years of unavoidable second hand smoke. I am now sixty three.
My doctor wants a specialist to look at it and he wants to do a colonoscopy. I am of the opinion that no matter how good his periscope is, it won't look at my bladder. This leads me to believe that his desire to use a colonoscopy is just a cash cow that will use up my and my insurances money before they actually look at where the discomfort is.
I am becoming very mistrustfull of medical practitioners motives these days and believe that they do a lot of useless things merely because it pays well.
Any opinions?
