Trying to conceive after bladder cancer

Hi there.

I agree with Sara. If the opportunity arises you find yourself a good doctor. Asking questions and doing research online educates you about your type of cancer. Fortunately, you have low grade.

As a suggestion, you might want to look into the types of food that help build your immune system to help fight cancer as well what will help when you become pregnant.

Good health and good luck!

WOOPS...I meant a gynecologist...one who specializes in "complicated" situations!

If you were in the US I would recommend getting a new urologist! Any physician who is good welcomes a second opinion. In fact, mine said that if it ever comes to bladder removal (It hasn't, and IT WON'T) he would insist on it!! But you need to have the best that you can get, and you may not have much of a selection.

Wishing you really good luck...

Thank you!
I actually asked my urologist and an oncologist about the pregnancy issue and both recommended I should go ahead with it. My urologist has a habit of getting offended every time I bring up my concern of referral. I am based in Pakistan and unfortunately have limited access to good doctors here so I do not have the luxury to switch to another competent doctor.
When you said referral to specialist did you mean referral to a gynecologist or referral to a specialist in urology? Sorry I'm a little confused there. My concern is my urologist probably already considers himself a specialist and might be offended by my question. He gets offended by every question I ask.
Thanks again!

So sorry to hear about your diagnosis, but happy to hear that it was low grade. Be sure to keep up with those urologist appointments; bladder cancer has a bad habit of returning, and you want to keep an eye on it.

May I recommend that you have a long talk with your urologist about referral to a specialist to discuss the pregnancy issues. Bladder cancer is much more common in older people, so this isn't a question that comes up often. My GUESS (I am certainly not a doctor!) is that pregnancy wouldn't affect bladder cancer since it is not tied into hormones the way that breast cancer is...but you want to check this out.

Best of luck to you

Hi,

I am a 29 year old female. I was diagnosed with low grade non invasive BC in Feb 2015. I had my TURBT at that time as well. I haven't had a follow up cystoscopy yet since my doctor was out of the country - I am supposed to have it this month as soon as he gets back (next 10 days). I wanted to ask if there are any young females here who have gotten pregnant after BC? Both my urologist and oncologist said I should keep trying and that my cystoscopies wouldn't be a problem even if I do get pregnant. I can't hep but be scared. We have been trying to conceive for a year with no success. Of course I was diagnosed with BC during tht one year and was in and out of the hospital so we stopped trying in between. I'm worried whether BC might have affected my ability to get pregnant and whether getting pregnant might make BC come back.
